Geplante Wartung / Scheduled Maintenance

DC-Update

Um sichere Netzwerke zur Verfügung stellen zu können, sind regelmäßig auch Updates der Soft- bzw. Firmware von Netzwerkkomponenten notwendig.

Obwohl unser Netzwerk hochredundant ausgelegt ist, kann dabei nicht immer vermieden werden, dass es zu (geplanten) Ausfällen kommt, daher versuchen wir - wenn möglich - solche Arbeiten samstags durchzuführen, um den Forschungs- und Lehrbetrieb möglichst wenig zu stören.

Die nächste solche Wartung ist für den 17. Oktober 2026 geplant: Was wird passieren und was bedeutet das?

1. Systeme im Data-Center
   Einige Systeme der TU Graz im Data-Center werden in den Wartungsmode geschalten oder tw. auch heruntergefahren.

   Beim Aufruf dieser Server bzw. Services erscheint dann teilweise eine Wartungsinfo.
2. Die Netzwerkinfrastruktur wird upgedatet, über den Fortschritt wird hier berichtet.
3. Systeme im Data-Center
   Die Systeme werden wieder hochgefahren und sollten wieder erreichbar sein.
4. Tests
   Die Betreuer der Systeme überprüfen, ob alles wieder normal läuft.

Achtung:
Nachgeschaltete Systeme (von Instituten etc.) sollten weitgehend nicht betroffen sein, das kann aber auch nicht garantiert werden, planen Sie daher keine wichtigen Aerbeiten an diesem Tag!

To ensure secure networks, regular updates to the software and firmware of network components are necessary.

Although our network is designed with a high degree of redundancy, (planned) outages cannot always be avoided; therefore, we try - whenever possible - to carry out such work on Saturdays to minimize disruption to research and teaching activities.

The next such maintenance is scheduled for October 17, 2026: What will happen, and what does this mean?

1. Systems in the Data Center
   Some TU Graz systems in the Data Center will be switched to maintenance mode or, in some cases, shut down.

   When accessing these servers or services, a maintenance notice may appear in some cases.
2. The network infrastructure is being updated; progress will be reported here.
3. Systems in the Data Center
   The systems are being restarted and should be accessible again.
4. Tests
   The system administrators are checking to ensure that everything is running normally again.

Please note:
Systems from other organizational units should not be affected this time, but this cannot be guaranteed; therefore, please do not schedule any important work on this day!

Update zu den Wartungsarbeiten | Update on Maintenance

06:00	Die Vorbereitungsarbeiten beginnen, u. a. werden die angekündigten Server entweder offline genommen oder in den Wartungsmodus versetzt. Preparation work starts, including the announced servers to either be taken offline or put into maintenance mode.
06:30	Die Switches mit Kupferinterfaces im ersten Data-Center werden upgedatet. The switches with copper interfaces in the first data center are being updated.
07:00	Die Switches mit Kupferinterfaces im ersten Data-Center sind upgedatet, die „Kupferswitches“ im 2. DC starten. The switches with copper interfaces in the first data center are ready, update of „copper switches“ in the second DC starts.
07:45	Das Update der Kupferswitches im zweiten Data-Center ist abgeschlossen, es geht mit dem 3. DC weiter. The copper switches in the second data center are completed, starting with the 3rd DC.
08:15	Das Update der Kupferswitches im dritten Data-Center ist abgeschlossen, es geht mit den Swiches mit Glasfaserinterfaces mit gerader ID weiter. The copper switches in the third data center are ready, now updating the switches with fiber-optic interfaces with even ID.
09:00	Das Update der LWL-Switches mit gerader ID ist fertig, das Update der LWL-Switches mit ungerader ID beginnt. The update of the fiber-optic switches with even ID is completed, the update of FO switches with odd ID starts.
09:30	Das Update der LWL-Switches mit ungerader ID ist auch fertig. Das Update des vorletzten Leafs startet. The fiber-optic switches with odd ID are ready. The update for the second-to-last Leaf is starting.
10:00	Das Update des vorletzten Leafs ist fertig, das Update des letzten Leafs beginnt. The update for the second-to-last Leaf is completed, the update of the last Leaf begins.
10:45	Das Update des letzten Leafs ist fertig, die Systeme werden wieder hochgefahren bzw. aus dem Wartungs- in den Produktiv-Modus versetzt. The update of the last leaf is complete; the systems are being booted up again and switched from maintenance mode to production mode.
11:00	Das DC-Update ist abgeschlossen. The DC update is completed.
